Export Requirements for Chile
June 1, 2017
Ineligible Products
Consult the Shell Egg Export Restrictions Dashboard prior to certifying any shipments.
Prerequisites
All Policy and General Procedures Requirements listed in General Export Certification must be met unless otherwise noted in this webpage.
Purpose
This instruction outlines specific certification requirements for shell eggs as prescribed by Chile.
General Procedures
Product Requirements
- Production facilities must apply a Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) system or an equivalent system. Other audit-based programs used to verify HACCP compliance may be evaluated for suitability by the National Shell Egg Office.
- The shell eggs shall be infertile. Therefore, eggs from commercial free-range flocks are not eligible for certification. The packer must provide a signed Certificate of Conformance (COC) on company letterhead verifying the source flock requirement.
Grade Requirements - The shell eggs processed under the supervision of the USDA grader must be graded and certified as U.S. Grade A or better as outlined in the United States Standards, Grades and Weight Classes for Shell Eggs (AMS 56).
Packing Case Labeling
Plant management is responsible for the proper labeling of shell eggs packaged in containers (i.e. cartons, sleeves, overwrap, and boxes) for direct sale to the consumer.
Case Label requirements:
- The plant number assigned to the packer/producer.
- Name and address of the packer.
- Country of origin – “Product of USA”.
- Quantity in each case. For example, 30-Dozen or 15-Dozen may be on each shipping case. However, the individual egg count must be placed on the case end label. For example, “360-eggs” or “180-eggs”.
- Packing date listed in the “Month-Day-Year” format (MM-DD-YYYY).
- Expiration date (if applicable) in “Month-Day-Year” format
Duration of Quality (Expiration Dating) - If a prefix, EXP or Best By, is used with a duration of quality that exceeds U.S. domestic policy, the following disclaimer will be printed in the remarks section of the Shell Egg Grading Certificate, LPS-210S:
“The expiration date declared on the product is the responsibility of the applicant.”
Certification - When completing the certificate (Form LPS-210S) the following information must be included:
- The statement ‘Certified for Export – Fit for Human Consumption’, shown in the remarks section.
- Transport unit number.
- Company seal number.
- The following net weight declaration shall be listed in the remarks section:
- The net weight of the lot(s) of eggs covered by this certificate is based on the average net weight of the samples examined. [Total net weight = total number of cases multiplied by the average case weight for the lot(s)].
- The total number of cases for the shipment shall be listed in the remarks section. If multiple lots are combined in a shipment, the total number must be listed in the remarks section.
